Street Lighting: Fixing Faults
Making sure the lights are on all over Bournemouth
Bournemouth Council looks after more than 20,000 streetlights, signs and bollards to reduce the risk of accidents at night. All electricity used for powering the street lighting in Bournemouth comes from renewable resources.
Report a problem
We carry out night time inspections once every 28 days, to check that streetlights and illuminated signs are operational.
If you see a broken, flickering or damaged street light, illuminated sign or bollard:
- Before you get in touch, please check the road name and the street light number. This number is usually found on the streetlight column about five or six feet off the ground.
- Contact us - or call 01202 451199 if it's an emergency.
- During office hours we aim to attend site within 2 hours.
Once we’ve assessed the fault we aim to fix it within five working days.
If there’s extensive damage or a supply cable fault it may take another 10 to 28 days to fix.
If there’s is a problem with the electricity supply, which is the responsibility of Scottish and Southern Energy plc the repair will be done in line with OFGEM regulations.
